Bearduo // Caroline Jesalva // Charlie Reichert Powell & New River.
$15 at the door
Caroline Jesalva
My work concentrates on sound, composition, installation art, experimental and poetic forms. I love bringing music to unconventional spaces and collaborating across disciplines and artistic mediums. I have been very fortunate to have an amazing community of collaborators that includes composers, dancers, film-makers, visual artists, activists, poets, rappers, and puppeteers. I like to write poetry and plays about self-identification, anger, heritage, surrealism, and ritual.
Bearduo
Bearduo is a saxophone duo consisting of Aaron Kaufman-Levine on Alto Saxophone and Garrett Frees on Tenor Saxophone. Dear friends and collaborators since 2015, Aaron and Garrett started improvising together as a duo in their first semester together at New England Conservatory (Fall 2019). What began as a fun practice routine became a daily rehearsing group that vowed to push each other and themselves to find their own way to approach improvised music on the saxophone. Bearduo brings a unique and spontaneous creation to each performance that reflects their shared musical language and deep connection. Their first self-titled record Bearduo released in July 2025 with a focus on long form improvisation, scale and interaction between the two performers.
Charlie Reichert Powell & New River
Charlie Reichert Powell, based in Baltimore, is an artist interested in sound and structure; the guitar and computer; the spectrum between improvisation and composition; tactility, connections, movement, and spaces. His first album with his group New River, I Am Return To Where, explores recontextualization and repetition and came out on Shinyboy Press in 2024. This iteration of New River features Sam Pluta on electronics, Nico Wohl on guitar, and Mike Kuhl on drums.

Hailed by The Wire as “A grand menagerie of creative music,” Seventh Stanine is a gathering of artists who, against all promise of financial gain, notoriety, or any of the usual tropes associated with playing music, continue to make art because they have to; they can't imagine their lives without it. As described in the Washington Post in 2025 by pop music critic Chris Richards, “The mere idea of a “music festival” implies a certain bigness, but what if instead of inviting audiences into a treasure vault, organizers offered a glimpse into a jewel box?”

Draft X S.1 - A Showcase of Dance Works in Progress.
tickets @ door $10-25
Draft X S.1 is the first iteration of a recurring series that hosts performance opportunities for dance and movement artists in Baltimore. Artists from across the city submit works that they are resurrecting, currently developing, or that have just been ideated and present them in front of an audience (for the first or nth time). After the performances there is opportunity to talk with the artists and be in discussion about the works, their processes, and what might be next. This is a community centered performance that seeks to build more engagement and opportunity for dance and movement artists living and working in Baltimore. Come be part of the process (and maybe dance a little too)!

Kalia Vandever / I hate performing alone (Emily Francisco & Alex Tyson) / niki afsar
Sunday June 14 * doors at 6:30, show at 7 * $15-25 * TICKETS
Kalia Vandever (they/them) is a trombonist and composer living in New York. Praised by AllMusic as “a master musician and composer” and “a singular talent,” Vandever’s approach to the trombone is distinctive, defined by their sonorous tone and lyrical voicing. They lean into the challenges of the instrument and allow patience and melody to guide their process. Vandever’s music has quickly and widely gained traction in the last few years despite the fact that their style has been consistently difficult to pin down, boasting a compositional scope ranging from the palatial modern jazz of their quartet work (notably featuring guitarist Mary Halvorson) to the synthetic, gauze-like droning ambience of their solo material, their compositional practice draws from their love of both songs and improvisation, creating a landscape of sounds that resonate in the body and hold the listener. This dexterity has not gone unnoticed, with The Wire asserting, “Vandever has never sounded more assured and in control of their many strengths.”
Emily Francisco is an artist and educator based in Washington DC. Their work has been reviewed and discussed by Hackaday, The Washington Post, Hyperallergic, the Media Archeology Lab, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and at The National Gallery of Art. A five-time Janet and Walter Sondheim Award semi-finalist, her work is currently on view at The Delaware Contemporary through August 2026. Alex Tyson is an artist and musician based in Washington, DC. As a musician, they’ve been a featured artist at SXSW and have played a Tiny Desk… But always with others. Their visual work lives somewhere between the screen and studio floor: generative visuals, robots, metal, plaster, and lately lasers. They are a recipient of a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
niki afsar: 'i am a nonbinary/femme, iranian-american writer and interdisclipinary artist. my work explores not only longing but also the lack that persists in my relationships to language and mythologies of identity. these liminal spaces of void are where desire lives. they are essential for change and reinvention. i employ a number of mediums including devised movement and performance; poetry and text; live singing and recording using a vocal loop machine; sound collaging; and more recently, mirror work.'

Masks required & provided
*please register for event even if you acquire a free ticket!*
This event is meant to be a soft place to land, a creative communion that explores themes of suffering and resistance. We think of FOMO or the fear of missing out as something that self-taught artists might experience, and therefore want to facilitate a supportive discussion in relation to that. The event will include: check in & mingling; shared group craft; facilitated group discussion; closing performance by amo. Feel free to bring a craft you are working on or pieces you are called to share!

LIVE CINEMA NOW! 99 Hooker / Tara & David Gladden / Ex Lamp
Thursday June 18 * doors at 7:30, show at 8 * $12-20 * TICKETS
LIVE CINEMA IS NOW!
99 Hooker (NYC) - Dancing with Moloch,30 minute live performance mixing B movies, ads, docs, live camera, ecstatic dancers, animations, live and recorded poetry, personal elegies, remembrances including an auto-eulogy, zombies, Allen Ginsberg, John Denver, Black Sabbath, Charles Manson, Wheel of Fortune, Jelly Roll Morton, Max Fleischer, Donald O’Finn, Feedbuck, Akio Mokuno, Donald Miller, Emmalee Sutton, to name but a few. 99’s multimedia Danse Macabre is joyous, funny, terrifying, thoughtful and playful.
C. Tara and David Gladden (Chance, MD) present “Interference Land” - a performative live cinema experiment consisting of ethereal vocal choruses, glossolalia, glitched, live feed video, modal shifting, color bleeds, rhythmic skips, unpredictable signal flows, phase shifts, and chain effects. Life partners and longtime collaborators, the duo works across video, sound, performance, installation, sculpture, and the unclassifiable. They are founders of John Cage Memorial Park, a rogue artist residency and land art project hidden in the pine woods of Chance, Maryland.
Ex Lamp (Washington, D.C.) has been performing video either solo or as a band member since 2002 when he played with AE (with ½ of plunderphonic pioneers Stock, Hausen and Walkman). Ex Lamp’s work consists of real-time video sampling and layering of video material. Differing from “VJ”ing, these live remixes (vampling) employ the original sound and the image simultaneously - a concert/cinema hybrid. For this event, Ex Lamp (formerly Matterlink) will perform “Flash Boom” (aka Pika Don), an exploration of the violence of artificial light.

Unsystematic Music by Will Redman.
This concert will feature music by Baltimore composer Will Redman, performed by twelve of this city’s most creative improvising chamber musicians. Although Will’s music does not necessarily involve free improvisation, his hand-drawn graphic scores are well suited to musicians who think like improvisers. The composer is presenting this concert partly as a 20th birthday celebration of his 98-page graphic score Book, but also as a way to bring together a group of musical friends who have been meaningful to his life and work in Baltimore.
Will Redman is a composer, percussionist, and educator based in Baltimore, MD. He is a minimal maximalist who embraces functional mistakes in both his notated and improvised music. Much of Will’s music features hand-drawn unsystematic notation that invites the performer to solve their own questions of interpretation. His music has appeared in books on modern music, such as Notations 21 (cover image), Music After the Fall, and A Semiotic Approach to Open Notations, as well as music and poetry journals, doctoral theses, and grade school arts textbooks in Brazil and Lithuania. Will’s notation has been used for t-shirts, posters, album covers, synthesizer faceplates, tattoos, and as public art on the facade of the Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental Paris-Saclay. He plays in Microkingdom, The Compositions, and Umbilicus, and teaches music technology and composition at Towson University.

Reclaiming & Reconnecting with Wild Foods - A Juneteenth Foraging Workshop
Friday June 19 * 12pm * $35 * REGISTER
Foraging in America has strong connections to Black and Indigenous history. This talk will discuss how our ancestors made food, medicine, dyes and materials using many of the wild plants that we walk past every day. We will learn to identify, work with and honor these magical plants as well as explore the laws and systems that disconnected us in the first place.
Some of the plants we may discuss include Sassafras, Black Cherry, Pokeweed, Pawpaws, Cranesbill, Mulberries, Dandelion, Wild Garlic, Wild Lettuce, Black Walnut, Senna and more. Many of these plants have rich histories as staples in indigenous diets; some were used to supplement rations during slavery, to provide food and medicine during escape and later became staples in the black American diet.
Samples of herbal preparations will be available for participants to try, and participants will receive recipes.

Lecture/Presentation - Structures of Music Exploitation (S.O.M.E.)
Friday June 19 * 6pm * Free * RSVP
Structures of Music Exploitation (S.O.M.E.)
Speaker: Norman Kelley, editor, R&B (Rhythm and Business): The Political Economy of Black Music (Akashic Books 2002); The Head Negro in Charge Syndrome (Nation Books, 2004).
Overview
Structure of Music Exploitation (aka the “structure of stealing") examines the various methods used to extract wealth from black talent and music. Drawing from Norman Kelley’s unpublished work, An Industry Beneath Their Feet: The Mismanagement and Exploitation of Black Music, he will argue how the structure of exploitation within the music recording industry made it possible for black music and black talent to be exploited with impunity. However, the presentation will also argue that African Americans, in some cases, failed to – in the best sense of the word–exploit their own folk culture as a resource as well as showing examples of blacks who took advantage of black talent’s naivete. This presentation critically assesses how the absence of an integrated economic strategy—one linking politics, culture, and commerce—led to the persistent pattern of artistic brilliance and economic marginalization. The talk invites audiences to reconsider how economic empowerment could emerge from cultural innovation.

Duanwu DIY & Share
Sunday June 21 * 11am * Free / Donations * RSVP
Chinese culture understands time as cyclical and relational. The traditional Chinese calendar divides the year into 24 Solar Terms, presenting the subtle shifts in nature and having different celebrations each term.
One of these terms is Duanwu Festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month: a time when summer begins to intensify, marked by remembrance and cultural rituals such as dragon boat racing and eating zongzi. In this event, we will:
- Introduce Duanwu and its meaning, connecting personal stories of hometown, cultural roots, and remembrance;
- Participants DIY two gifts inspired by their hometown and cultural memory: one kept for themselves, and one exchanged with another participant (A to B, B to C, C to A);
- Share reflections on how ritual, making, and exchange create a moment of pause.
The event is free, and donations to Rhizome DC are suggested. We will provide basic art supplies (paper, pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint & brushes), but please bring any other materials for DIY.

Grace A. Keller - DC-based singer/songwriter, 1/4 of hotel sewing kit
Jem Wilde - DC/Baltimore
Devin Shaffer's new album, Patience, mirrors life's highs and lows on the search for spiritual meaning, purpose, and connection. Patience updates the hushed intimacy of songwriters like Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier, and Linda Perhacs for the twenty-first century. Shaffer challenges both herself and the listener to find peace in the unknowing and comfort in the surrender.

Mike Andre / Emi Kawashima / George Karos
Tuesday June 24 * doors at 7, show at 7:30 * $10-20 * TICKETS
Mike Andre plays deconstructed punk rock in the band Sensor Ghost. Tonight he will be performing deconstructed folk music under his own name.
Emi Kawashima (she/they) is a mover, grower, and maker based in DC. They explore movement and other mediums with a constantly changing body and mind. Inspired by nature, relationships, mental health, and everyday situations, she has been experimenting with plant dyed shibori fiber in their work. Emi gets their hands dirty as a garden manager at the Washington Youth Garden while finding ways to share space and collaborate with other creative folks.
As a creative artist, George Karos integrates written poetry with sparse acoustic music performances. For over three decades, he's performed in bands and as a solo folk singer. He has 3 published poetry books - and been published in over 60 worldwide literary publications.

Fred Frith Concert.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser Fred Frith has been making noise of one kind or another for more than 50 years, starting with the rock collective Henry Cow, which he co-founded with Tim Hodgkinson in 1968.
Fred is best known as a pioneering electric guitarist and improviser, song-writer, and composer for film, dance and theater. Through bands like Art Bears, Massacre, Skeleton Crew, the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Cosa Brava, and now Fremakajo he has stayed close to his roots in rock and folk music while branching out in many other directions.
His compositions have been performed by ensembles ranging from Eclipse Quartet and the Bang on a Can All Stars to Concerto Köln and Galax Quartet, from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to the ROVA and Arte Sax Quartets, from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Ground Zero to the Glasgow Improvisers’ Orchestra.
Film music credits include the acclaimed documentaries Rivers and Tides, Leaning into the Wind, and Tracing Light, directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer; The Tango Lesson, Yes and The Party by Sally Potter; Middle of the Moment by Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel; as well as Penzel’s Zen for Nothing, Peter Mettler’s Gods, Gambling and LSD, and the award-winning (and Oscar-nominated) Last Day of Freedom, by Nomi Talisman and Dee Hibbert-Jones.
Composing for dance throughout his long career, Fred has worked with Rosalind Newman and Bebe Miller in New York, François Verret and Catherine Diverrès in France, and Amanda Miller and the Pretty Ugly Dance Company over the course of many years in Germany, as well as composing for two documentary films on the work of Anna Halprin.
Theater credits include François Chat’s Setaccio and François-Michel Pesenti’s Théâtre du Point Aveugle in Marseille, where he spent six months in 1990 working with “jeunes rockers en chômage des quartiers défavorisés” on the opera Helter Skelter.
Fred has performed works by and sometimes alongside composers John Luther Adams, Gavin Bryars, Sylvie Courvoisier, Alvin Curran, George Lewis, Annea Lockwood, René Lussier, Jose Maceda, Meredith Monk, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, and Christian Wolff; improvised with Lotte Anker, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Peter Brötzmann, Lol Coxhill, Janet Feder, gabby fluke-mogul, Tim Hodgkinson, Joëlle Léandre, Phil Minton, Ikue Mori, Butch Morris, Bob Ostertag, Evan Parker, Zeena Parkins, Paula Sanchez, Susana Santos Silva and Camel Zekri, to name a few; collaborated with classical virtuosi Evelyn Glennie, Katia Labèque, Viktoria Mullova, and Werner Bärtschi; and—as session musician—recorded on albums by, for example, Brian Eno, The Residents, Robert Wyatt, The Swans, Violent Femmes, Material, Negativland, John Zorn, Matthew and the Unfortunates, and Half Japanese.
He is currently performing solo and with Normal (home-made instrument duo with Sudhu Tewari), Frelonia (with Lotte Anker and Núria Andorrà), Fremakajo (with Marie Abe, Kasey Knudsen and Jordan Glenn)as well as in countless combinations of his favorite co-conspirators.
The recipient of Italy’s Demetrio Stratos Prize for his life’s work in experimental music and an honorary doctorate from the University of Huddersfield in his home county of Yorkshire, Fred taught for twenty years at the legendary epicenter of American experimental music, Mills College in Oakland, California; as well as co-directing (with Alfred Zimmerlin) the improvisation master’s program at the Musik Akademie in Basel, Switzerland. He is the subject of Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel’s much loved Step Across the Border, cited by Cahiers du Cinéma as one of the 20th century’s hundred most influential films.

CHAO TIAN is a boundary-breaking Chinese dulcimer virtuoso, improviser, and sonic thinker whose music unfolds across tradition, experimentation, and diasporic imagination. Trained in the classical lineage of the Chinese dulcimer since the age of five, she now bends that legacy into new shapes—treating the instrument not as a symbol, but as a living, questioning voice.

Sacred Texts, Shared Thoughts: A Religious Exploration Discussion Group
Sunday June 28 & bi-weekly * 11am * $5-10 suggested * REGISTER
How do different traditions across history and geography think about how we should live our lives? Join this community for a casual, biweekly discussion group dedicated to exploring the practical philosophies and lived wisdom of the world’s major spiritual traditions. Over the first 12 weeks, we’ll look at foundational ideas from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Taoism, Stoicism, Shinto, Yoruba, Animism, Christianity, Islam, and some modern faiths.
This is less of a learning seminar and more of a conversational space. There are no right or wrong answers, and you don’t need any background in religious studies to participate. Come as you are, ready to chat about the ideas that jump out at you, what resonates with your own perspective, and how these philosophies might map onto our lives.

Teiku / Kutay Sezginel
Tuesday June 30 * doors at 7pm, music at 7:30 * $15-25 * TICKETS
Secret Planet presents... Chicago pianist Josh Harlow and Detroit percussionist Jonathan Barahal founded Teiku around the concept of using their respective families’ unique Passover melodies as conduits for new forms of spontaneous musical expression. Their self-titled 2024 debut was a meditation on their shared history and a tribute to the ancestral melodies that they grew up singing. Sophomore album Klang expands on this reinterpretation of traditional sounds by drawing source material from the wider community, rare manuscripts, voice recordings, and memories of late-night ritualistic chants. Five of Klang’s six tracks represent the same Passover song/liturgical text, with each becoming a completely distinctive and unique melody when filtered through regional and family variations.
Kutay Sezginel - Hailing from Istanbul and based in Baltimore, Kutay bridges psychedelic rock and dark ambient territories with the microtonal melodies and odd rhythms of Anatolian folk music. On the neo-ethnic instruments of çağlama and electric cümbüş, he revives and reinvigorates old traditions in contemporary, layered explorations.

Kat Stoddard presents WASP'S NEST
Join us on Tuesday, June 30, in Remington to celebrate the release of Baltimore author Kat Stoddard's debut novel, Wasp's Nest! Kat will be in conversation with fellow Baltimore author Jane Delury.
This event is free to attend, but let us know you'll be there by registering here!
About Wasp's Nest:
A modern retelling of The Philadelphia Story, Wasp’s Nest is a witty, gripping love triangle unfolding over the course of seven chaotic days at a Cape Cod wedding
Tess wants nothing more than for her upcoming society wedding to overshadow the failure of her first marriage. Her fiancé Warren, a steady soon-to-be state senator, is nothing like her first husband. Tess’s relationship with working-class artist Peter was a passionate crash-and-burn, and a chapter of her life that she's ready to forget.
Peter hasn’t seen Tess in five years, so he’s shocked to receive an invitation to her wedding. But he’s moved on too, and it wouldn’t hurt to prove it by showing up with a handsome younger man as his plus-one. Mitch, an aspiring writer, is intrigued by Peter and jumps at the chance to pry into the lives of his Waspy ex-in-laws. What he’s not bargained for is developing serious feelings for both Peter and Peter’s ex—Tess, the bride. But Peter and Tess have complex desires of their own, and Mitch is dangerously close to uncovering them.
Wasp's Nest is a fast-paced, humorous, and heartfelt exploration of the shape of our affections that proves real love triangles connect on all sides.
Wasp's Nest releases on Tuesday, June 30. Preorder your copy here!
Kat Stoddard lives with her daughter in Baltimore. Wasp’s Nest is her debut novel.
Jane Delury is the author of the novels Hedge and The Balcony, which won the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She is a professor of creative writing at the University of Baltimore, where she directs the BA in English.

Chill Parents / CS Cleaners / Slot / GORF
Wednesday July 1 * doors at 7, music at 7:30 * $10-15
CS Cleaners (NYC) deliver 11 tracks of warped, day-glow art punk that lash out at the absurdity of contemporary living. The band is influenced by NYC downtown music from CBGB’s diverse first wave through the mutations and deconstructions of no-wave. But while CS Cleaners might have a sound rooted in music that can be severe at times, they are by no means taking themselves seriously: What’s This? is dance music first and foremost, albeit a form wild enough for these extreme times.
Chill Parents (DC; last show) - punk/grunge/crust/hardcore
Gorf (DC) - hardcore
SLOT (Baltimore) is the high-energy, dance-punk project with a genre-fusing sound described as gritty but flirty pop songs with a punk, in-your-face delivery, and pumping, heavy, danceable beats.

Magic Tuber Stringband / Tacoma Park / Jon Camp Band
Saturday July 11 * doors at 6:30, show at 7pm * $20 * TICKETS
Magic Tuber Stringband, hailing from North Carolina, probes the undercurrents of the landscapes around them. Highly skilled players and writers, the trio are leaders within the burgeoning avant composition world utilizing folk instrumentation. Their music appears to weave in and out of the fabric of their surroundings, reflecting their time spent living across the Southeast and studying its regional folk traditions and natural histories.
Tacoma Park is a North Carolina-based duo. Brian Howe of IndyWeek described them as playing "abstract impulses in a style you might call homespun monumental, with heavily processed guitars and richly textured synths combining into a Southeastern American take on a certain German tradition of droning, pulsating, landscape-traveling electronic music.
Jon Camp Band: Jon Camp is a fingerstyle guitarist and composer based out of the DC region. Jon blends melody, twang, and drone into a cohesive whole that is exploratory without forsaking the hook.

Workshop - Committing Ourselves to Freedom
Sunday July 12 * 3pm * $10-25 / email us for scholarships * TICKETS
Join renowned trombonist and educator Dan Blacksberg (Anthony Braxton, The Body, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, klezmer music) for an afternoon meeting all about committing and recommitting to freedom in our music. Dan will lead participants in group playing, large and small, and in group discussion to explore the opportunities and responsibilities that come with committing ourselves to freedom. Playing music, especially free improvisation, is fully recognized when we connect with other people, even when playing solo or practicing. Over the course of this workshop, we will model/practice/fake-it-til-you-make different ways of being in the Free Music community. We'll take cues from the whole history and present of creative music - with the clear understanding of its roots in Black music - and aim to bring out our own free creativity - something we all had as children. Join us and take the chance to go deep into ourselves, each other, and into the brilliant experimental musical world.

Shannon Sanders presents THE GREAT WHEREVER
Join us on Tuesday, July 14, in Remington to celebrate the release of Shannon Sanders' debut novel, The Great Wherever! Shannon will be in conversation with Baltimore writer Khaliah Williams.
This event is free to attend, but let us know you'll be there by registering here!
About The Great Wherever:
An impulsive and heartbroken woman inherits her father’s share of a Tennessee farm that is rich in family secrets and occupied with busybody ghosts in this sweeping family portrait.
At thirty-two, Aubrey Lamb is stumbling through adulthood. An underpaid gig worker in Washington, DC, she’s grieving the end of a serious relationship and the recent loss of her father. When Aubrey learns she has inherited his stake in a sizable Tennessee farm she sees an opportunity to get out of the city—and to erase a mounting pile of debt.
Watching her arrival with great interest are four ghosts—Aubrey’s ancestors, who’ve staked their own claims to the farm and who never hesitate to pass judgment on the mistakes made by the living, whether romantic, financial, or sartorial. As Aubrey reconnects with her living family, another story unfolds in parallel: the history of the land, beginning with its purchase by Thomas, Aubrey’s great-grandfather and one of the first Black landowners in his community. Though Thomas hopes to give his children a homestead on which they could flourish, the land proves to be a burdensome inheritance. Over the years, it turns the Lambs against one another, culminating in a catastrophic tragedy that splinters the family and echoes through the decades.
Now, as the clock ticks on a potential sale of the farm, the ghosts fear expulsion from the home they’ve made, and Aubrey must weigh the hopes and burdens of her forebears with the very real needs of her future.
An expansive family saga told with a wry and distinctly modern voice, The Great Wherever is at once grand and intimate; it explores the ways we learn to define ourselves through and against our families, how we carry on after loss, and how the past lives on in all of us.
The Great Wherever releases on Tuesday, July 7. Preorder your copy here!

Benny B. Peterson presents THE MAIDENHEADS
Join us in Remington on Wednesday, July 15, to celebrate the release of Benny B. Peterson's debut novel The Maidenheads! Benny will be in conversation with artist and writer Rahne Alexander.
At the event, 10% of sales of The Maidenheads will be donated to Trans Maryland! Trans Maryland is a multi-racial, multi-gender, trans-led community power building organization dedicated to Maryland’s trans community.
This event is free to attend, but let us know you'll be there by registering here!
About The Maidenheads
A bighearted debut novel about queer yearning, indie musicians, and bushwacking a thorny path back to your first love
Jamie is bad at endings, which is why she's stuck at a dead-end Baltimore newspaper job, continuing to have break-up sex with her first-ever hetero partner, and haunted by the what-ifs of her ex-girlfriend Mari—a charismatic and brilliant musician—and their former band together, the Maidenheads. Since they (and their band) broke up a decade ago, Jamie hasn't been able to sing.
Then an unexpected opportunity to perform in DC with Mari's successful new band arises, and Jamie jumps at it. What begins as a return to music becomes a reckoning—with the weight of unfinished love, the voice she long buried, and her own complicated past. But as Jamie channels more of her energy into the band, other threads in her life begin to fray, and she must make some urgent choices about her future.
Electric, spine-tingling, and filled to the brim with tenderness and honesty, The Maidenheads is a novel about the tenacity of first love, the life-changing power of music, and the difficult, necessary work of becoming yourself.
The Maidenheads releases on Tuesday, May 26 and is available for preorder here!
Benny B. Peterson (they/them) is a writer and editor based near Washington, DC. A contributing editor at Washingtonian magazine, they have also worked at Foreign Policy, the New Republic, and Street Sense, DC's street newspaper. John Wiswell presents THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS
Join us in Remington on Saturday, July 18, to celebrate the release of John Wiswell's new novel The Dragon Has Some Complaints. John will be in conversation with author Jo Miles.
This event is free to attend, but let us know you'll be there by registering here!
About The Dragon Has Some Complaints
In this heartfelt and humorous fantasy from the Nebula-winning author of Someone You Can Build a Nest In, a dragon whose three heads bear rather…different...personalities finds family in the most unexpected of places.
Garrodigh was once a four-headed dragon, among the most powerful in Kardoša. After an unfortunate incident, he now has three heads, one stump, and a daily whirlwind of internal bickering. Centerhead wants to rain death upon all humanity, Bottomhead is like a feral cat, and Upperhead is under the delicate delusion that he is, in fact, human.
When a nearby battle goes awry, Garrodigh sneaks into an elite dragon rider academy, pretending to be tame to get free food and a warm bed. Lucky for him, rider Rania Charvátová is desperate enough for a dragon of her own that she overlooks his eccentricities.
As Garrodigh recovers under Rania’s care, all three heads start to turn, for the first time, in the same direction. Each wants to protect her from the invaders who killed their fourth head—the same invaders who seek to conquer Kardoša. When the academy comes under attack, can this wild dragon and his wilder rider save their homeland together?
This cozy fantasy intertwines epic battles with loving friendships, sharing an utterly unique perspective on what it means to be a “monster.”
The Dragon Has Some Complaints releases on Tuesday, July 14 and is available for preorder here!
John Wiswell is a disabled writer who lives where New York keeps its trees. His novel Someone You Can Build a Nest In won the Nebula Award and Locus Award and was nominated for the Hugo Award. He has also won a Nebula and a Locus for his short fiction, and has been a finalist for the British Fantasy Award and World Fantasy Award. He is also the author of the Nebula Award-nominated novel Wearing the Lion and The Dragon Has Some Complaints.
Jo Miles writes short stories and novels across the spectrum of speculative fiction, featuring vivid characters, quirky world-building, and a sense of hope.
Jo is a graduate of the Viable Paradise and Taos Toolbox writers’ workshops. Jo’s short fiction has appeared in numerous places, including Lightspeed, F&SF, Analog, and Fireside. Their story “The Longest Season in the Garden of the Tea Fish” in Strange Horizons was nominated for a WSFA Small Press Award.

Study Hall is a series of salons for people to discuss anything they’d have talked about in the cafeteria (and if you’re someone who really did study, time to share what you learned). Topics can be anything you would’ve talked about during your free time in between classes, including things you would’ve said in the school cafeteria but not to the dean. Everyone is encouraged to present something at a Study Hall.
At the beginning of the event, you will sign up to present a topic. (You can also add yourself to the agenda before the event HERE.) Presentations do not have a specified time limit, and can go on until other attendees begin raising questions and transition into a Q&A format. You do not need to be an expert, and you do not need to have all the answers, proposing an interesting question and prompt for discussion is also encouraged!

Vesuvian / Sexfaces / Teen Cobra / The Armors
Wednesday July 19 * doors at 6, music at 7 * $15-20 * TICKETS
Vesuvian is a group of punks playing classic rock. Their new album Vesuvian came out in May 2026 out via Worry Bead Records.
Sexfaces ain’t here to play nice. Jacky Cougar (Des Demonas, Thee Lolitas) pounds the drums like they owe him money, while Sal Go (Stop Worrying & Love the Bomb, The NVs) saws through the noise with guitar that’s equal parts bratty and brutal. Hana Racecar (Tadzio, Coven Tree) layers in viola with a sneering elegance, and Neil Cobra (Teen Cobra) slings basslines that punch and swerve. Together, they churn out a sound that drags the droney madness of the Velvet Underground through the gutter, filters it through The Fall’s acerbic wit, and ties it all together with the punk attack of The Damned and the scuzzy swagger of Royal Trux.
Teen Cobra is a Venezuelan lo-fi punk duo by way of Washington, D.C., formed in 2018 by Neil (guitar, vocals) and Veronica (drums, vocals). Their minimalist one-two punch of punk draws equally from ’60s garage rock, the late-’70s CBGB frenzy, British post-punk sensibilities, and who-knows-what-the-fuck since then. They have released two 7-inch records, a live cassette, and a full-length LP. With a shitty guitar, a snare, and a floor tom, Teen Cobra shine a light on the majesty of the DIY music ethos.
The Armors are a rock ’n’ roll band blending hard-hitting classic rock swagger with mid-’70s glam. Nodding to proto-punk and DC’s Revolution Summer, their sound is equal parts danceable and snarky. They’re carving their way through the DC scene in dive bars, record shops, and underground event spaces.

Sarah Adler & Lindsay Hameroff in conversation!
Join us on Monday, August 3, in Remington to celebrate the releases of Sarah Adler's new novel, Wild Goose Chase, and Lindsay Hameroff's new novel, Rewrite the Stars! Sarah and Lindsay will chat about their new novels, answer audience questions, and sign books.
This event is free to attend, but let us know you'll be there by registering here!
About Wild Goose Chase:
An antique dealer and his inconvenient(ly irresistible) new colleague must contend with an illicit stuffed goose and their sizzling attraction, from USA Today bestselling author Sarah Adler.
Antique store owner Callahan Leitner has an illegal taxidermy goose in his living room.
Why? It’s…complicated.
But it may end his career unless he finds a legitimate way to dispose of the bird ASAP. Except, there’s an unexpected wrench in his plans—the frustrating, effervescent Annie O’Neill.
Annie is happy to fill in for her uncle at his antique store; it’s the perfect opportunity to gain more experience before opening a shop of her own, plus she'll finally meet his handsome young business partner. Unfortunately, Cal is nothing like the charming man she expected. She’s tempted to take his apparent dislike personally, until she stumbles upon the source of his moodiness: the contraband waterfowl hidden upstairs.
When the goose goes missing, both of their professional reputations are on the line. As Cal and Annie attempt to track down the bird before it can be traced back to the store, their tentative alliance turns into something much deeper. Will the hunt for their felonious fowl lead to true love, or end in ruin?
Wild Goose Chase releases on Tuesday, July 28. Preorder your copy here!
USA Today bestselling author Sarah Adler writes romantic comedies about lovable weirdos finding their happily ever afters. She lives in Maryland with her husband, daughter, and very mischievous cat. When not working, you can find her attempting to course-correct an ill-advised late afternoon nap with an equally ill-advised late afternoon coffee, as she is incapable of ever learning a lesson.
About Rewrite the Stars:
A sparkling romance between an ex-actress and her contractor, reminding us that it’s never too late to rewrite our destiny.
Semi-retired actress Marissa Morgan has played many parts in her life. But these days, her primary role is mother of two. Since hitting pause on her career, she’s worked hard to give her kids a normal childhood and shield them from the spotlight. When her ex-husband announces his high-profile engagement and a media storm ensues, Marissa and her kids flee Los Angeles for a summer at her recently inherited Poconos lake house.
The long-vacant house needs major TLC, so Marissa hires a home renovation company. But when the project hits a snag and Marissa finds herself sharing space with the crew, including Jesse, the handsome (and vaguely familiar) foreman, her plans for a drama-free summer hit choppy water. As the summer days pass, Marissa starts centering her own needs for the first time in years—and that includes giving in to her mounting attraction to Jesse. Soon, she questions if their fling could become something more.
After an unexpected career opportunity falls into Marissa’s lap, it feels like the stars have finally aligned. But when new complications arise, Marissa and Jesse wonder how they’ll fit into each other’s future. Can the two of them chart a new course together, or is it too late to rewrite the script for a happily ever after?
Rewrite the Stars releases on Tuesday, July 7. You can preorder your copy here!
Lindsay Hameroff is a writer, humorist, and former English teacher raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Her writing has been featured in McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Weekly Humorist, and fan letters to Harry Styles. She is the author of Till There Was You, her debut novel, and Never Planned on You.

Welcome to the theater of your dreams—an inexhaustible source of images and stories that can provide entertainment and insight, and that requires no cable service and no subscription—just attentiveness and an open mind. Participants will share dreams, using a gentle, non-intrusive method for unlocking the metaphors that structure dreams (derived from the long-tested method of Dr. Montague Ullman). We’ll also talk about techniques for recalling and recording dreams, as needed.
